What Is a Key Learning Moment?

Each Key Learning Moment names the specific activity or discussion students most need to engage with deeply, tells you exactly which slides to prioritize, and recommends how much time to preserve. It also explains why that moment matters, so you know what's at stake if time runs short.

Where This Came From

This update grew directly out of our fall 2025 lesson observations in a Tucson high school. One of the clearest findings from that full semester of classroom observation was that knowing what to prioritize in a lesson isn't always obvious — especially when you're still getting familiar with the content or the curriculum. Economics is a discipline with a lot of moving parts, and when you're teaching a concept for the first or second time, it can be genuinely hard to know which ten minutes matter most. That's not a reflection of teaching skill; it's just the reality of learning a new curriculum while also delivering it.

We hope to take the guesswork off your plate by naming the Key Learning Moment explicitly — right on the first slide, before instruction begins.
