Updated Practice Scoring in Lesson 2.8: Assessment Preview

We've revised the “Practice Scoring” portion of Lesson 2.8 (Assessment Preview) to better prepare students for the revised mid-unit assessment in Lesson 2.9 (Analyzing a Product Market).

What We Changed

The practice scoring includes two new sample responses, both analyzing a shift in the market for (snack) chips, that reflect the format and expectations of the updated Lesson 2.9 assessment.

In the samples, students are given a product market model and asked to explain what happened in that market. The two samples are written to represent different levels of performance on the rubric: one demonstrating proficient work and one demonstrating advanced work. This gives students — and teachers — concrete examples of what strong economic analysis looks like.

Why It Matters

Practice scoring works when it closely matches what students will actually be asked to do. By aligning the sample responses in Lesson 2.8 with the revised assessment in Lesson 2.9, students get targeted practice identifying the qualities of a strong explanation. You’ll also gain a useful tool for setting expectations with your students.
