Curriculum Updates
We are constantly updating our lesson plans. Often it's small changes to a handout or slide, but we also regularly update data and refresh sources and examples. Our experiences this semester in the classroom have helped inform some bigger lesson changes.
Recent significant lesson plan changes:
1.4 Thinking Like an Economist: Part 2
Updated Activator: The fictional story has been replaced with a recent news article to provide a real-world connection and more direct preparation for the unit assessment.
1.5 Exploring Diminishing Marginal Utility
Easier Utility Tracking: Students now track marginal utility during the gum chewing experiment, then calculate total utility, and discuss when each is most appropriate.
2.1 Coffee Market
Simulation & Debrief Support in Slides: We’ve created a “how-to” video, added step-by-step slides for those who have not implemented a market simulation, and built in additional support to debrief the economic concepts that are introduced in the lesson.
2.3 Introduction to Firms
One Less Copy to Make and Debrief Support in Slides: We’ve streamlined the debrief questions, included them on the existing student handout, and, like in 2.1, built in additional support to debrief the economic concepts introduced in the lesson.
We will continue to make changes as we observe and implement lessons at the high school and community college and receive feedback from our members.
