New Support Added to Two Unit 5 Lessons

Six fingers with smiley faces drawn on them, each paired with a different colored speech bubble, in front of a dark chalkboard.

We've added a new layer of support to two of our Unit 5 personal finance lessons: the Investing Adventure in Lesson 5.2 and the Savvy Consumer Bootcamp in Lesson 5.11. Both lessons now include suggested responses to help you support students through the primary activity with more confidence.

These give you a clear reference point for what strong responses look like, making it easier to check in with students on the fly and catch misconceptions quickly.

Where This Came From

Thanks to our partners at the Nebraska Council for Economic Education, we were able to work with 30 educators at an in-person program in Kearney, NE. During that workshop, an educator suggested that Lesson 5.2 would benefit from built-in guidance on what solid student responses should look like. We agreed, and while we were at it, decided to add the same support to Lesson 5.11. It's one of our favorite kinds of updates: a practical fix that came directly from someone in the classroom.

Bonus Teaching Tip

Even with years of experience teaching a lesson, suggested responses, or an answer key, it's always worth completing the assignment yourself before handing it to students. Doing the activity allows you to serve as quality control, keeps the content fresh in your mind, and puts you in your students' shoes. This way you’ll be ready to quickly help a student who needs support.

As you work through it, ask yourself: Is this task manageable? Are the instructions clear? What kind of response am I really looking for? Does anything need rewording? How long does it take?
